BC Transit is expecting to have daily trip cancellations across Greater Victoria due to a significant reduction in ridership and varying driver availability amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We recognize this is a fluid situation and will update customers on a day-by-day basis while we work on implementing and communicating a new sustainable plan for service,” said the bus company in a statement.
No details have been given on what routes are most affected or how many cancellations there will be.
“We are continuing to work to ensure we have service on the road for customers that need to get to work, including hospitals, and going out for groceries or other needs.”
The transit company will, however, be offering free service along with rear door boarding in both Victoria and Nanaimo. The service changes are slated to last 30 days as the company tries to navigate the COVID-19 landscape.
For the next 30 days we are implementing rear door boarding in #Victoria and #Nanaimo to enhance social distancing for drivers and passengers. #yyjtraffic #transportationBC
