Flares have been lighting up the sky off Victoria Monday night, leading some people to call 911 thinking there was an emergency.

One caller described it as an ‘orange glow’ over James Bay and said it almost looked like a fire.

But officials say there’s no cause for alarm.

The flares are from search and rescue training.

The Canadian Armed Forces is conducting air SAR exercises , including flare and paradrops, in the vicinity of Albert Head.

Training exercises will be taking place from February 4th to February 8th in Juan de Fuca Straight and Esquimalt Harbour between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.
