Comox Valley RCMP are asking for witnesses to contact them after a possible attempted child luring incident in Courtenay.

Police say at around 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 10, an 11-year-old girl was riding her bicycle on Willemar Avenue when she saw a black van pull up beside her.

The girl told police the male driver, who was the only one in the vehicle, held up two bags of candy. The girl also said the man did not say anything but pointed at the candy. She immediately rode away on her bicycle.

The driver is described as a Caucasian man between 25 to 45-years-old with a small light-coloured goatee wearing a black cowboy-like hat.

“Investigators would like to speak with anyone who was in the area on Saturday afternoon and may have spotted the van” Const. Monika Terragni, media relations officer with the Comox Valley RCMP, said in a statement.

“The van was described to investigators as a nearly new, black van tinted rear windows – the driver pulled into the oncoming lane of traffic to speak with the young girl.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Comox Valley RCMP at 250-338-1321 and refer to file 2018-16012. If you wish to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at http://comoxvalleycrimestoppers.bc.ca/.
