Effective Wednesday, all open fires are banned in the Coastal Fire Centre’s jurisdiction, except for Haida Gwaii and the west coast of Vancouver Island known as the fog zone.

The ban includes any open fire like campfires, fireworks, firecrackers, lanterns, burn barrels, tiki torches, stoves or other portable campfires.
The ban follows a recent heat wave that saw soaring temperatures which dried out much of the region and multiple brush fires that have sprung up.
Coastal Fire has since changed the fire danger for much of the south Island to “extreme”.
Much of the southern Island is sitting at an extreme danger rating for forest fires.
According to BC’s Wildfire Services, the risk for a wildfire to catch and spread just too high, and there’s little or no relief in the forecast.
The B.C. Wildfire Service says the ban, which applies to all private, crown and provincial parks, will likely remain in effect until mid-October.
