Two people are in police custody and charged with multiple offences after being arrested in Parksville after being caught in a stolen vehicle.

29-year-old Amie Kloss of Parksville and 27-year-old Kevin Lackie of Nanaimo were spotted Tuesday night when Oceanside RCMP was patrolling a Qualicum Beach forest service road.

Police say the officers recognized the vehicle coming towards them as being stolen and when they activated their emergency equipment, the police vehicle was hit and the suspects took off.

A spike belt was laid down on Highway 19 in Parksville, which was driven over by the suspect vehicle.

The suspects went another two kilometres before coming to a stop in a ditch.

RCMP say Kloss and Lackie are well known to police and had a number of outstanding warrants for their arrest.

Kloss has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm without a licence, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and flight from police.

Lackie faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

The vehicle had been stolen March 2 from a Parksville marina.

The pair remains in custody pending a court appearance.
