Two schools in the capital region are part of an accelerated project addressing high lead levels at six schools in British Columbia.
École Sundance Elementary in Victoria and the Children’s Development Centre in Saanich are two of six schools in the province earmarked for the project.
Recent tests found levels of lead in water sources at several schools in the province.
The provincial health officer has said there is no evidence of children being affected by lead in drinking water.
This is part of the government’s $750 thousand School Enhancement Program and on top of $6.5 million invested to reduce lead levels in school district water since last year.
The Ministry of Education says schools with unsafe lead content are routinely flushing pipes or shutting down affected systems.
The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of March.
