Paper Excellence says it is extending its curtailment of paper operations at its mill in Crofton again, leaving dozens of employees out of work.

Temporary curtailments have plagued the mill over the past few years. In October 2022, the company announced an indefinite curtailment of its paper operations at the mill starting in December of that year.

Some 300 workers were brought back to the mill this September, but were largely part of the mill’s pulp operations.

At the time, Paper Excellence said the curtailment of its paper operations would be extended into October, and on Friday the company said the curtailment would be extended once again until the end of November.

“The continued curtailment means that approximately 70 paper operations employees will not return to work in November,” said the company in a release Friday.

“Paper Excellence Canada continues to work with our employees to mitigate the impact of the ongoing paper production curtailment.”

In the meantime, the company says it is working with customers to provide them with products from its other mills, like the Catalyst Alberni mill.
