A Duncan family’s seven-week-old newborn son has passed away after battling a heart condition.

A family member says Major Gruber passed away at Victoria General Hospital around 4 a.m. Sunday in his mother’s arms.

They received news late Saturday night that his condition was terminal.

The family was forced to spend Thanksgiving apart this year as their son was at the B.C. Children’s Hospital in Vancouver.

His mother, Pauline Thoresen was on the mainland with him while his father, Jeremy Gruber, was back at home in Duncan on the holiday.

The family also has a seven-year-old son, Hunter, with Down syndrome and a heart condition.

They say the situation has put significant financial stress on them.

A friend of theirs set up a GoFundMe page to help. You can find it here: https://www.gofundme.com/baby-major-fundraiser

Members of the family are also hosting a bottle drive all day today at 6216 Somenos Road in Duncan.

The family says they are thankful for the community support in the difficult time.
