For the fifth year in a row, Colwood rose to the occasion during the Victoria Flower Count. Every year, people across Greater Victoria are encouraged to count spring blooms on trees in parks and in streets across the region In 2016, more than 138 million blossoms were counted by students and others. The week-long flower count is a friendly competition amongst the municipalities and now, for the fifth year running, Colwood has been named the “bloomingest community” with just over two billion blossoms. The runner-up was Saanich, which counted 722 million. The winning school was John Stubbs Memorial Elementary with 1.8 billion spring blooms. The flower count ran from March 7-14. More than three billion blossoms were counted this year.
