4.9-magnitude earthquake strikes southwest of Port Alice Wednesday night

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island on Wednesday night, according to Earthquakes Canada.

The earthquake was located 230 kilometres west-southwest of Port Alice and had a depth of 10 kilometres. It was recorded at 9:22 p.m PDT.

There were no reports of any damage and no tsunami warning was issued.

One person did report feeling the earthquake to Earthquakes Canada’s website.

The earthquake comes more than one week after multiple earthquakes were recorded off of Vancouver Island’s west coast, including three quakes measuring 6.6, 6.8 and 6.5.
