Another Zellers pop-up store is slated to open in Victoria this month.

Hudson’s Bay Company is reviving the old Canadian department store with a pop-up location at Mayfair Shopping Centre.

The pop-up location is scheduled to open by Sept. 22, alongside dozens of others across the country.

On Aug. 5, a similar Zellers pop-up location opened at the Bay Centre in downtown Victoria. Another location is also open in the upper floor of the Hudson’s Bay at Woodgrove Centre in Nanaimo.

The pop-up locations are part of the Hudson’s Bay’s plans to open more permanent storefronts.

“As I’ve said before, pop-ups are a key ingredient in our expansion strategy, allowing us to explore and test in new markets and fine-tune our offering before establishing larger format store locations,” said Hudson’s Bay president Sophia Hwang-Judiesch in a release Wednesday.

“Our customers are in the driver’s seat – they will tell us how and where to grow.”

Once all the pop-up locations are open, there will be 78 Zellars stores open across Canada.

Zellers first opened in 1931 before being acquired by Hudson’s Bay in 1978.

The Canadian brand hit its peak in the late 1990s, reaching about 350 stores, before closing most locations by 2013.

A handful of locations, mostly serving as liquidation outlets, remained open until 2020.
