A man and a woman were arrested on Monday in connection with a robbery and hours-long standoff on Cook Street in Victoria last week.

At around 7:45 a.m., on Aug. 13 police were called to a report of a robbery at an apartment building the 2300-block of Cook Street. People who were believed to be suspects in the robbery remained inside a suite in the building.

After a standoff that lasted over eight hours, one man was arrested by the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. Police said at the time that two people remained “outstanding.”

Then on Aug. 17, at around 1:30 p.m., a VicPD K9 team saw the two suspects, standing at a bus stop in the 1000-block of Hillside Avenue.

Police said the man fled on foot from the area. Officers and the VicPD K9 team arrested the woman.

At around 4:30 p.m. that same day, officers found and arrested the man at an apartment building in the 1000-block of Hillside Avenue.

John William Crawford, a 30-year-old Victoria man, is charged with aggravated assault and robbery. Additionally, officers arrested Crawford on outstanding unendorsed warrants for review of sentence in relation to a 2019 break and enter, mischief under $5000, and theft under $5000.

Crawford was held in custody to await a court appearance, police said.

Police are recommending charges of aggravated assault and robbery against the woman, who has not been named at this time. She has been released with a court date.

One man who had been assaulted with a weapon during the robbery was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.
