One person was seriously injured in a crash on the Malahat highway Saturday morning.

BC Emergency Health Services tells CHEK News it received a call about a crash on the highway at 11 a.m.

One ambulance was deployed and one person was taken to hospital in critical condition, according to the organization.

Just after 11 a.m., DriveBC warned drivers that the highway was closed in both directions just north of Shawnigan Lake Road near the Malahat Skywalk.

“Helicopter medivac enroute,” said DriveBC in a social media post at 11:29 a.m.

DriveBC says the crash was cleared around 12:10 p.m., though commuters are still warned to expect delays due to the holdup.

“Please expect delays due to the traffic volume,” said DriveBC.

“Thank you for your patience.”
