One man has died, and another has been flown to a Victoria-area hospital after a serious crash near Campbell River Saturday.
RCMP say a red pickup was heading eastbound on Highway 28 from Gold River when it drove off a steep embankment at around 7 a.m. after going through a sharp curve — around 20-kilometres west of Campbell River.
A man in his 30’s died and the other who is 42-years-old was able to scramble up a cliff over the course of an hour and forty-five minutes to stop a passing motorist.
He has been flown to hospital with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.

Police suspect both men were not wearing seatbelts. Speed and alcohol are also being investigated as factors.
The section of highway has been reduced to a single alternating lane as officials continue their investigation.
