RCMP say a red pickup was heading eastbound on Highway 28 from Gold River when it drove off a steep embankment at around  7 a.m. after going through a sharp curve — around 20-kilometres west of Campbell River.

A man in his 30’s died and the other who is 42-years-old was able to scramble up a cliff over the course of an hour and forty-five minutes to stop a passing motorist.

He has been flown to hospital with serious and possibly life-threatening injuries.
