Witnesses told CHEK one person was assaulted at the Home Hardware on Oak Bay Avenue on Aug. 12.

Victoria police say they are investigating a report of an assault near the intersection of Davie Street and Oak Bay Avenue after one person was taken to hospital.

Few details have been released but police say one person went to the hospital Wednesday afternoon with what appears to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The reported assault is still under investigation and no arrests have been made at this time, police said.

Employees at the Home Hardware store on Oak Bay Avenue say the person who was injured was the owner of the hardware store and he was trying to stop two men from shoplifting.

Witnesses told CHEK that the owner had seen two men trying to steal items. The owner was then reportedly assaulted when the situation escalated.

The store is the same one where a man attacked a cashier with a hatchet last November. The employee did not receive serious injuries and the man was later arrested.
