The Port McNeill RCMP are investigating after one driver was killed and another was seriously injured in a head-on crash near Woss on northern Vancouver Island.
The crash occurred on Highway 19 approximately three kilometers south of Woss on Thursday afternoon.
Police were called to the collision around 2:30 p.m. Based on initial reports, investigators believe that an SUV crossed into the oncoming path of a commercial semi-truck.
“Sadly, the driver of the SUV did not survive the crash,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Alex Bérubé in a release Friday.
Meanwhile, the driver of the semi-truck was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, according to RCMP.
Police closed the highway for several hours as traffic reconstructionist examined the scene.
Mounties are now looking to speak with any witnesses and are asking anyone with dashcam video of the crash to come forward.
