A woman is dead after a car and motorcycle crashed on the highway near Qualicum Beach, west of Parksville.

The crash occurred around 4:45 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Highway 4 and Highway 19, according to the Oceanside RCMP.

Police believe that the car was turning left onto Highway 19 from Highway 4 when it collided with the motorcycle heading east along Highway 4.

The driver of the car and operator of the motorcycle were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the passenger of the motorcycle, a 61-year-old woman from Port Alberni, was declared dead at the scene.

“Alcohol has been ruled out as a contributing factor and the investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the crash,” said Sgt. Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP in a release Wednesday.

The Oceanside RCMP say they are working with the RCMP collision analysis and reconstruction service on the investigation, and that the BC Coroners Service is also looking into the death.
