CHEK

The Victoria Shamrocks fell 9-7 at the hands of the New Westminster Salmonbellies in Game 1 of the WLA Finals at Queens Park Arena Friday night.

The ‘Bellies came out firing, as former Shamrock Mitch Jones would open the scoring in the series, and New West would take an early 2-0 lead.

Luckily, the Shamrocks would score 2 quick goals, one coming from returning player Rhys Duch with just three seconds remaining in the period to make it 2-2 after one period of play.

In the second, the two teams would trade a total of 9 goals, but the ‘Bellies would lead 7-6 after two.

And the New West defence would hold the Shamrocks to just one goal in the final period, as the Salmonbellies defeated the Shamrocks 9-7, and take a 1-0 series lead.

Game 2 of the series goes tomorrow night at the Q Centre. Opening face-off is set for 6:00pm.
