Central Saanich fire crews responded to a caravan fire on Josephine Road Saturday night, where there were no injuries.

Jered Blaikie, captain with Central Saanich Fire Department says the fire department got the call around 11:30 p.m.

“We were on scene for about an hour and 20 minutes, probably put it out after 15 minutes or so, 20 minutes,” Blaikie said. “It was fully engulfed the caravan and put it out pretty quick.”

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they saw the fully engulfed camper van with flames going through the roof. A two-person crew used a hand line and pumped approximately 500 gallons of water to extinguish the fire.

Blaikie says the owner of the caravan was on scene for the fire, but the cause is still under investigation.

He says the caravan was empty at the time of the fire. However, the van and it’s contents are now considered a total loss.

In a statement, the Central Saanich Fire Department says they give credit to the quick acting 911 calls and cooler temperatures as to how they got to the scene so quickly.
