Water pools on roads as rain falls in Greater Victoria

A mix of heavy and light rain across Greater Victoria Saturday led to water pooling along some roads, including the Malahat.

Drivers were reporting some traffic delays on the Trans-Canada Highway in the Malahat area due to water accumulating heading north, near the Tunnel Hill Campground. Mainroad said the water cleared quickly and by Friday afternoon, crews were checking drains to make sure everything was clear.

There were also reports of water accumulating in Saanich at Dumeresq Street and Interurban Road and in Victoria on Dallas Road near Ogden Point.

The rain also caused a vehicle to slide resulting in a two-vehicle collision at Blenkinsop Road and Royal Oak Drive just before 1 p.m. There were no serious injuries.

The Capital Regional District has put out a notice about stormwater and wastewater overflows between Rutland Road (Oak Bay) and Seaview Road (Saanich) including Cadboro Bay. Residents are asked to avoid entering the water along the affected shoreline as wastewater may be a health risk.

The CRD said beaches within the affected areas will have public health advisory signs until sample results indicate enterococci levels are below the 70CFU/100mL recreational limit.
