Small earthquake rattles residents in Sayward

A 2.9-magnitude earthquake was felt in Sayward, B.C., Wed., Feb. 17, 2021.

A relatively minor 2.9-magnitude earthquake felt like anything but for people living in the northern Vancouver Island community of Sayward Wednesday.

The earthquake struck at 12:19 p.m. at a depth of 3.9 kilometres, according to Earthquakes Canada.

Those who felt it said they heard loud booms and felt shaking in the village and surrounding area. It also reportedly was felt for some time.

There were no reports of damage and none were expected.
