Police release photo of ‘person of interest’ in Nanaimo mall groping incident

Investigators in Nanaimo have released surveillance images of a man who may have information on a groping incident in the parking lot of Woodgrove Mall.

The incident happened at around 4:45 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20. Police said it occurred in the west side of the parking lot near the bus loops.

A woman reported to police that she was leaving the mall and was at the door of her car when a man approached from behind and groped her.

The woman was reportedly in a a “state of disbelief and shock,” according to police, and yelled at the man as he walked away.

On Tuesday, police released a still photo of a person of interest “who may have information that can further the investigation.”

They’re searching for a man described as either Indigenous or Hispanic, between 25 and 30 years old, between 5’7″ and 5’10”, and who was weaering camoflage pants, dark shoes and a dark-coloured The North Face hoodie. He was also wearing a camo-coloured face mask, according to police.

Anyone with information on the man’s identity is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 and quote file number 2021-6304.
