As the old saying goes, “it’s been a long and winding road”. Stacy has been part of the CHEK family since April 2000 when she was hired as a fill-in, weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter. She’s still convinced she only got the job because her mini-van was burglarized the evening she auditioned but something clearly stuck. Through a number of different positions in sports and then news, and several changes of station ownership, she is now a proud employee-owner and the anchor of CHEK News at 5.
Her journey to CHEK meandered through a childhood spent mainly on horseback, performing musical theatre or watching sports. She graduated from Belmont Secondary School and went on to earn an Applied Communication diploma from Camosun College and a Fine Arts Degree, in theatre, from the University of Victoria. In between those two educational events, she got her first tv job, in 1989, at CJDC in Dawson Creek, BC. She did news, sports and weather with an electric typewriter, a set covered in grey carpet and magnetic weatherboard and most definitely no teleprompter.
Away from work, Stacy is living the dream, in Metchosin, with her husband, two kids. Her parents and her childhood home are right next door. She loves curling (just ask Jeff King), watching her son race at Western Speedway and her daughter playing softball. Eating, cooking, fishing, cycling with her rescue dog, Jonesy and spending time at the family trailer by the ocean are some other favourite things.
Stacy is so grateful for her family, friends, and colleagues; for her home on beautiful Vancouver Island; and for the ongoing support of our loyal CHEK viewers. The future looks bright, and she can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
