Paul Haysom is a failed hockey player who now anchors CHEK News at 6. Growing up on the Saanich Peninsula he took those broken sports dreams and turned them into a job working in the CHEK Sports department. In 2013, Paul took a job in Vancouver where he worked as an anchor and producer at Global BC.

After reporting on the Calgary Floods in 2013, Paul got a taste for the cowboy lifestyle and joined Global Calgary as the 11 p.m. anchor – where he learned the difference between Yahoo and Yeehaw (it’s very important there – Yeehaw is American). Paul wanted more U-Hauls in his life and took the Morning Show job in Vancouver in 2017 where he woke up to the sweet sound of his alarm clock every day at 2:45 a.m.

Throughout his journey, Vancouver Island kept calling him home – and in 2023 Paul rejoined the CHEK family to host the 6 p.m. news. Paul has won multiple awards for live coverage and reporting – career highlights include reporting live from the Stanley Cup riots of 2011, national wildfire coverage across B.C. and Alberta and being inducted as an associate member of the Canucks Alumni (guess he kinda sorta finally made it as a hockey player).

When he’s not on the anchor desk you can find Paul and his wife Nikki taking their dog Fuller for a hike, working on his golf swing or dabbling with his acoustic guitar and trying out local breweries. Paul loves storytelling and his philosophy is that news is a reflection of the community – good, bad, light, inspiring and most importantly – truthful.
