WATCH: The flames from a fire in Campbell River last night were so intense and spread so quickly that even huge fir trees burned like candles. Two homes were also on fire, with people inside, forced to try and escape before first responders even arrived. Dean Stoltz has more.
The Campbell River Fire chief says an investigation is in its early stages to determine what caused a fire that destroyed one home, and caused damage to another.

Doherty says the fire appears to have started in the garage or carport area of the home that was consumed by flames.
Twenty-five firefighters responded with two engine units, two ladder trucks and a rescue unit.
B.C. Ambulance and Campbell River RCMP also attended.
Doherty says there was lots of smoke in the area and some neighbours were assessed and homes ventilated to try and remove the smell.
The investigation continues and a GoFundMe has been set up for one of the families affected.
