WATCH: It was a sign of how dry things are in the region. On Tuesday, Saanich firefighters were called to a major brush fire. April Lawrence reports. 

A brush fire that shut down Blanshard Street between Cloverdale Avenue and Saanich Road Tuesday afternoon has been extinguished.

The fire was on a grassy knoll that divides Blanshard. The median is Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure land. Traffic was stopped in both directions at around 1:10 p.m.

Just after 1:30 p.m., Saanich Fire said the blaze had been extinguished. Lanes in both directions were reopened although delays continued for part of the afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
