BC Ferries cancels all sailings between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay

If you we’re hoping to avoid the Malahat with a quick sail across the Saanich Inlet, a staffing shortage will have you disappointed.

On Wednesday, all sailings aboard the Klitsa were cancelled by BC Ferries.

The company says it’s short-staffed and unable to properly crew the ship.

The short 25-minute trip between Brentwood Bay and Mill Bay is useful for travellers wanting to avoid the long drive on the Trans-Canada Highway.

“We require a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations,” reads the cancellation.

“The decision to cancel a sailing in these circumstances is made when we have exhausted all options to find replacement crew. That said, if circumstances change and replacement crew become available, we will notify customers immediately.”
