VicPD warns of ‘significant’ traffic delays for TC10K, parade on Sunday

Commuters are being warned of road closures and traffic delays in downtown Victoria on Sunday, April 28, for the annual TC10K race, as well as the 2024 Khalsa Day Parade.

For the TC10K race, road closures will be centred around the James Bay area.

Beginning around noon Saturday, Belleville Street between Government and Menzies streets will be closed so crews can set up the race, and the road will not reopen until approximately 3 p.m. Sunday.

Other roads, including a long section of Dallas Road, will be closed from approximately 7:30 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Specific streets may open earlier or later, depending on how long the race takes.

Thousands of runners are expected to participate in the race, which has grown to be one of the largest in the country.

“We’re just stewards of this race and just making sure it continues,” said TC10K event producer Mark Defrias.

“It’s a great community event and it’s something that is accessible to all age groups and all abilities, so whether you walk it or run the race, there’s an option for everyone.

Registration for runners was on Friday, and the gun will officially sound the race at 7:55 a.m. Sunday.

Khalsa Day Parade

Meanwhile, the annual Khalsa Day Parade will take place in the Burnside Gorge area of Victoria on Sunday, from approximately 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

“The parade route will proceed from Cecelia Road to Burnside Road, moving down Alpha Street, Douglas Street, Finlayson Street, and Jutland Road before returning to Cecelia Road,” said VicPD in a release on Wednesday.

A 20-minute performance will also take place along Finlayson Street between Douglas Street and Burnside Road during the parade.

The festival will then continue at the Gurdwara Singh Sabha on Cecelia Road after 1:30 p.m.

During both events, VicPD will also be setting up temporary CCTV cameras to monitor the areas.

Police say live updates on the road closures will be posted to the VicPD X (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
