The District of Tofino has issued a precautionary boil water advisory after their chlorination system failed overnight on Sunday.

Officials say water is now being safely treated but a minimum of 48-hours is required to confirm whether water is safe to consume.

Residents are asked to boil water for domestic uses such as for drinking, cooking and brushing teeth.

Water should be brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of two minutes.

The district says they will continue to monitor the supply system and work with Island health to gather details.
