Small earthquake ‘lightly felt’ on the Southern Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island

A 2.8-magnitude earthquake Friday was “lightly felt” on the Southern Gulf Islands, parts of southern Vancouver Island and northern Vancouver.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the small earthquake occurred at 10:09 a.m. 34 kilometres east of Duncan. It was 44 kilometres north-northeast of Victoria.

Earthquakes Canada said there are no reports of any damage and none are expected.

While Earthquakes Canada recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 2.8, United States Geological Survey recorded the earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2.
