A windstorm that hit parts of B.C.’s south coast early Sunday morning has resulted in 1,637 without power on Vancouver Island.

Areas in Sooke, Jordan River and Port Renfrew, Duncan, Chemainus, Salt Spring and Galiano Islands have been impacted.

Wind warnings and special weather statements that were issued have now been removed, and B.C. Hydro crews are working to get customers back on the grid.

Over 800 on the lower mainland are also without power.

B.C. Hydro has been extremely busy over the last month, following a historic storm that at its peak left over half-a-million customers without power.

Those outages were resolved, but some communities such as those on the Gulf Islands are still without phone and internet services.
