A man who was reportedly threatening people with a knife on the Galloping Goose trail was arrested in the View Royal area on Tuesday night.

Mounties say they received a report of a man “brandishing a knife and threatening people” on the trail near Atkins Road and Brydon Road around 7:12 p.m.

Officers with the West Shore RCMP went to the trail and quickly located the man and arrested him.

While police were searching him, officers reportedly found a butterfly knife in his possession, which is illegal in Canada. He also appeared to be intoxicated by alcohol, Mounties say.

The 47-year-old man was arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, possession of a prohibited device and uttering threats.

He was held in police custody overnight and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

“Thankfully no one was physically injured in this incident,” said Cpl. Nancy Saggar, media relations officer with the West Shore RCMP.

“We want to thank the witness who called police right away and provided a detailed description of the suspect and his location, which allowed police to apprehend the suspect quickly,” she said.
