The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. is investigating after a driver was seriously injured after crashing near where police were blocking the road in Comox.

On Feb. 12 around 1 a.m., police were responding to a collision off Bates Road near Seal Bay Provincial Park.

The officers noted a BMW slowed and turned around when the driver saw the police blocking the road.

An officer went to his car and drove towards the direction the BMW had gone, and a short distance later found the BMW had crashed and the male driver had sustained serious, but not-life-threatening injuries.

IIO is now investigating whether the police actions contributed to the crash.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact IIO at 1-855-446-8477 or via the contact form on the iiobc.ca website.
