A cyclist who allegedly spat on a driver and his passenger in April has turned himself over to police, after VicPD asked the public to help identify him.

On Tuesday, Victoria police said they were looking for a man who reportedly spat on a driver and his father, who was a passenger of his vehicle, on April 19.

The cyclist spat at the pair while they were stopped at a three-way intersection near Cook Street and Dallas Road.

“The spit struck the father in the face, and the cyclist continued down Cook Street and out of view of the driver,” said VicPD in a news release Tuesday.

On Wednesday, VicPD said the cyclist turned himself over to police that morning after investigators said they were looking for him.

“The posts received a high volume of engagement from the community, which aided in the suspect turning himself in,” said police on Wednesday.

Police say it’s still unclear what triggered the incident, and that their investigation is ongoing.
