Victoria police have released a photo of a cyclist who allegedly spat on the driver and passenger of a vehicle through an open window last month.

Just before 4:30 p.m. on April 19, VicPD officers received a call from a man who was driving with his father along Dallas Road. According to police, the cyclist spat on both of them while at a three-way intersection near Cook Street.

“The spit struck the father in the face, and the cyclist continued down Cook Street and out of view of the driver,” said VicPD in a news release Tuesday.

Police say it’s unknown at this time what provoked the assault.

They say the suspect is a Caucasian man in his 50s with a medium build and grey hair. At the time of the incident, he was riding a black road bike and wearing black bicycle tights.

Anyone with information about him or his whereabouts is asked to call the E-Comm report desk at 250-995-7654 ext. 1. To make an anonymous report, people can contact Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or submit a tip online here.

Earlier this year, a man was arrested and facing an assault charge after he spat on a random woman in downtown Victoria. In an interview with CHEK News, the woman recalled the incident, saying she was grateful a police officer was there to witness what happened.
