CRD lifts water quality advisory at Beaver Lake in Saanich

A water quality advisory has been lifted at Elk/Beaver Lake Regional Park, although officials are asking users to keep a close watch if near the water.

The advisory was issued by the Capital Regional District (CRD) in early December because of blue-green algae bloom in Beaver Lake.

Toxins were confirmed in tests, which the CRD says are capable of causing headaches and abdominal pain in people, and can cause lethal liver damage to dogs.

The CRD says an absence of blue-green scum combined with recent test results are indicators that the bloom is over.

However, the CRD warns residents should watch for blue-green algae blooms at Beaver Lake, which is unpredictable and can happen at any time.
