Comox Valley RCMP warn of dangerous drug in community

Comox Valley RCMP are warning the community about a dangerous drug that was found during a drug trafficking investigation in Courtenay back in October.

Police said during the investigation, a number of items were seized from a residence including a small amount of powder.

Comox Valley RCMP sent the powder to a Health Canada Laboratory and it was recently confirmed to have contained fentanyl, synthetic cannabinoid (5F-ADB), caffeine and acetaminophen.

“We are very concerned about the confirmation of this synthetic cannabinoid and fentanyl in our community.This was a potent and potentially lethal combination of drugs,” Const. Monika Terragni, media relations officer with the Comox Valley RCMP, said in a statement.

“These substances have been associated with psychotic episodes, overdoses and were presented in such a way that users may have been unaware of exactly what they were consuming.”

As a result of the investigation, Justin Chester was charged with several offences including obstructing police, possession of a scheduled substance, and failure to comply with his probation. Chester is still in custody.
