Central Saanich Police are looking to the public for help in identifying a suspect who “plundered” a dinghy from the Brentwood Bay area.

According to police, the boat theft took place on July 14 at around 5:30 a.m. in the morning.

In a Facebook post from Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers, they said that the “pirate” climbed aboard the dinghy along with a 2000 watt Honda generator that was also stolen from nearby.

Central Saanich police say that the dinghy is “an Osun 8’ Inflatable, white with grey stripes, with a black 8HP Yamaha outboard engine.”

The stolen dinghy was found nearly a day later on the beach in Mill Bay, police said.

Although the boat was found in Mill Bay, the stolen 2000 watt generator was not.

Witnesses captured a photo of the suspect, describing him as a caucasian man, who was wearing a grey baseball cap with a red bandana over his face, grey shorts and a plaid shirt. Witnesses also told authorities that the suspect had a red heart tattooed on his right calf.

In a tweet from Central Saanich Police, it asks anyone who witnessed the act or might have further video to call 250-652-4441.

If you want to remain anonymous you can call 1-800-222-8477 or submit a tip online with Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers.
