Transit rides will be offered for free on Victoria Day in the Comox Valley, though only two routes will be running.

The Comox Valley Regional District decided to make BC Transit service free for May 23.

“With gas prices on the rise, leave the car at home as modified versions of the Route 1 Anfield/Comox Mall and Route 2 Cumberland/Anfield will get you to all the Victoria Day activities, including the parade,” BC Transit said in a news release.

However, all other routes will not run on the holiday, which is typical for the Comox Valley transit system.

Only Easter Monday, Victoria Day, Canada Day and B.C. Day have some service, the other holidays have no service.

“On Victoria Day they are providing service on these two routes to get people to events,” a spokesperson said in an email to CHEK. “There is a detour mid-day to accommodate the parade on route 2.”
