British Columbia health officials on Tuesday reported 742 new cases of COVID-19 and one new death since their last update on July 30.

There were 160 new cases identified between July 30 and July 31; 196 new cases between July 31 and Aug. 1; 185 new cases from Aug. 1 to Aug. 2; and 201 new cases were identified between Aug. 2 and Aug. 3.

A total of 147,285 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 6,902,320 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

Today’s data was released as a statement to the media.

Island Health

There are currently 79 active cases on Vancouver Island. Of those active cases, five are in the North Island, 32 are in the Central Island and 42 are in the South Island.

Active cases are now at their highest on Vancouver Island since late May but are still down more than 80 per cent since peaking in early April.

While cases are climbing on the Island, that hasn’t appeared to translate into a raise in hospitalizations so far. There is only one person in hospital, with no one in ICU or critical care, according to the latest data on the BCCDC’s website.

Over the long weekend there were 24,475 doses of vaccine administered — 15 were AstraZeneca, 4,153 were Moderna and 20,307 doses were Pfizer — on Vancouver Island. The total number of doses administered within Island Health now stands at 1,140,062 with 513,624 (45 per cent) being second doses.

Since the pandemic began, there have been 5,307 cases reported, 41 deaths, 257 total hospitalizations, and 5,178 recoveries recorded on Vancouver Island.
