B.C. reports 970 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend, 11 deaths

B.C. health officials are reporting 970 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend as well as 11 deaths.

None of the new deaths reported over the weekend were in the Island Health region.

Between Friday and Saturday there were 389 new cases reported, with 309 reported from Saturday-Sunday and 272 from Sunday-Monday.

The number of confirmed cases in B.C. climbs to 218,068 while the province’s death toll now stands at 2,333.

Of the new cases, 103 were recorded in Vancouver Coastal Health, 306 were in Fraser Health, 238 in Island Health, 189 in Interior Health, and 134 in Northern Health.

There are currently 2,882 active cases in the province and 303 people in hospital — 115 of whom are in intensive care.

A total of 212,704 people in B.C. have recovered from COVID-19 while 8,672,194 doses of vaccine have been administered province-wide.

Just over 91 per cent of eligible people 12 and older in the province has received their first dose of vaccine, while 87.8 per cent have received their second.

On Monday, B.C. also began offering immunizations to children ages 5-11, saying roughly 104,000 children in that group are registered to get vaccinated of the 350,000 eligible to receive the modified dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.
