A woman was rescued after driving her vehicle off a ferry loading ramp yesterday.

Revelstoke RCMP say crews aboard a ferry rescue boat pulled a 51-year-old Elk Valley woman from the water after she drove her Ford Fusion off the Shelter Bay Ferry Terminal’s loading ramp on Oct. 13.

The incident happened at around 12:15 a.m. and RCMP believe the woman was the only occupant of the vehicle, which was found fully submerged at the bottom of the lake below the loading ramp.

“The location of the motor vehicle prevented the ferry from being able to safely dock and load and unload passengers,” Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the RCMP Southeast District said in a press release.

Revelstoke RCMP say Upper Arrow Lake Ferry crew members saw the woman in the water waving for help and rescued her and do not believe “intoxicating substances” were a factor.

Meanwhile, a commercial dive team and a tow company pulled the woman’s Ford from the lake. The

An investigation into the incident is ongoing at this time.
