The widow of a man who was killed after being struck by an SUV in Saanich last month has given birth to twin boys.

Meena Devi, 27, had a caesarean section at the Victoria General Hospital on Monday morning. Devi and the boys are reportedly healthy. They do not yet have names.

The boys’ father, 31-year-old Khushal Rana, died after he was hit by an SUV while he was walking along the sidewalk on Gorge Road West. The SUV was being driven by a 25-year-old woman. There is no word on charges at this time.

Rana, who worked as a chef at the Sizzling Tandoor Uptown location, also left behind a four-year-old son named Ankush.

The family, who are from India, had only been in Victoria for two months before the crash. Rana had previously worked in Surrey as a chef.

Family friends are helping to take care of Ankush, Meena and now the twins. The Khalsa Diwan Society Sikh temple on Topaz is working on getting a visa so Devi’s mother can come to Canada from India.

A GoFundMe campaign for the family has raised more than $125,000, surpassing the $90,000 goal. The campaign is now closed and the money will be placed in a trust fund. Anyone who wants to donate to the trust fund can contact Considine and Company.
