John Macoun, considered the father of Canadian botany, is credited as one of the founders of the impressive herbarium at the Royal BC Museum and Archives. His gift of hundreds of Vancouver Island specimens, reported in 1917, included samples of invasive species, documented for the first time. The museum’s botany collection now contains more than 210,000 specimens.
