Victoria woman interrupts break-in, police issue reminder to lock doors

The Victoria Police Department is issuing a reminder to Victoria residents to lock their doors after a break-in attempt was interrupted by a home-owner.

Police said they received a report on Wednesday, July 29 about an incident that took place at a multi-unit residential building in the 700-block of Tyee Road.

The report was for a break and enter that had been interrupted by the home-owner, who said the suspect tried to open her locked patio door located on the ground floor.

The woman said she confronted the man through the patio door, who then attempted to open an adjacent door to the suite. This door was also locked.

The man fled the scene before officers arrived after he attempted to open a third patio door, which was also locked.

Police said the suspect is a 35-year old caucasian man that is approximately six feet in height. The suspect wore a black hoodie and a burgundy hat on the night of the attempted break-ins.

Officers are reminding the public to secure doors and windows amid the hotter summer weather.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information to call the VicPD non-emergency line at (250) 995-7654.
