Victoria Police are seeking witnesses after a man was reportedly punched at random by a stranger while he was walking along Dallas Road on Saturday night.

According to VicPD, officers received the report shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday night while he was walking westbound on the sidewalk alongside the 500-block of Dallas Road — near the intersection of Government Street.

In the report, the man told police that he was approached by a group of three men and three women, who were walking eastbound.

The man says he was walking alone, listening to earbuds, when one member of the group “randomly” punched him in the face.

The man, who was surprised by the sudden and unprovoked attack, told police he fell to the ground, losing his earbuds in the process.

Following the punch, the man reported that his attacker proceeded to help him find his earbuds on the ground before departing eastbound with the group towards Beacon Hill Park.

The victim, who suffered non-life-threatening facial injuries from the punch, reported to police that the attacker did not say anything to him.

The suspect is described as a man, between 25 to 30 years old with a muscular, athletic build.

The suspect was part of a group of three men and three women who were all last seen walking eastbound, along Dallas Road, towards Beacon Hill Park.

Anyone with information about this incident is being asked to call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

To report what you know anonymously, please call Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Victoria Police adds that officers have been responding to increasing numbers of reports of random attacks.

“If you are assaulted or confronted by someone, please get yourself to safety by moving away from that person to a well-populated location, and call 911,” the department says in a statement.
