A man was arrested after leading patrol officers in Victoria on a foot chase Halloween morning following an attempted carjacking, say police.

According to the Victoria Police Department, patrol officers responded to the Johnson Street Parkade at around 7 a.m. on Oct. 31 after receiving reports about an attempted carjacking.

VicPD says the victim reported that he was inside his vehicle and was trying to leave the parkade when the suspect appeared. They say the suspect first attempted to open the vehicle’s door, smash the rear window and then fled on foot.

Patrol officers located the suspected carjacker and pursued him on foot. During the pursuit, VicPD says a Conductive Energy Weapon was deployed but was “ineffective.”

Eventually, more officers arrived and were able to take the suspect “to the ground” in the area of Johnson and Broad streets. VicPD says no one was physically injured as a result of this incident.

The suspect was transported to VicPD cells where he was later released with a court date and conditions.

VicPD says the incident remains under investigation.
