All VCA Animal hospitals on Vancouver Island are offering free boarding, wellness exams and pet food for any pets displaced by the fires burning in the Nanimo Lakes region.

Randy Langelier Manager of Island Vet Hospital says they are also accepting ferrel animals and wildlife free of charge but no live stock.

“We prefer if they call in advance so we can make sure we have staff and can see them in a timely manner but even if they just show up we are here to help as many animals as possible,” said Langelier.

Island Vet hospital on Bowen road and their sister hospital Ladysmith Animal Hospital are the only VCA animal hospitals in close proximity to the fires but all VCA animal hospitals in Victoria are also participating.

Langelier says they are fully equipped to receive animals right now and space is not limited. There is also no time limit for animals that need boarding.
