Temporary housing residents displaced after Capital City Center Hotel fire moved to supportive housing sites in Victoria

BC Housing says the 87 temporary housing residents who were displaced after the Capital City Center Hotel fire on Nov. 5 have been moved to supportive housing sites around Victoria.

The residents, who are receiving support services through the Our Place Society, went back to the hotel on Saturday to get their belongings and were then transported to either the Comfort Inn, Paul’s Motor Inn, or another supportive housing site.

Jones BBQ-Ruby’s, will provide additional meals to the Comfort Inn to accommodate the displaced residents and supplement the current food services program operating there.

The displaced residents will remain in their new homes for the foreseeable future, BC Housing said.

BC Housing has been leasing 84 rooms at the Capital City Center Hotel and said they are awaiting updates from the owner on the extent of damage to the property and whether residents will be able to return.

The fire on Nov. 5, which injured several people, is being treated as arson.

“BC Housing would like to thank residents, front line staff and first responders who worked together to safely evacuate everyone from the hotel and the subsequent partnership effort to relocate residents in a timely manner,” BC Housing said in a statement.
